Women Who Inspire: Shawna Wright, an artist painting one scripture at a time

Christian Women Living Magazine wanted to take this week to introduce you to one of our very own contributors. She has been with us from day one and has contributed wonderful art and content. Meet Shawna Wright, an artist painting one scripture at a time.

Cyndi Kay Green: Please give us a brief introduction about you and your family.

Shawna Wright: I’m a mother of two adult daughters which I home-schooled and have a 2yr old granddaughter. I was born, raised and met my husband in Northern British Columbia, Canada. By God’s calling we moved to Oregon in 2013. We continue to have our cabinet shop business and added a small cherry orchard to our acreage. My hobbies are my art and ministry — there is no time for anything else!

CKG: What brings you the inspiration for your paintings?

SW: I pray about it. But often scroll through bird photos until the colors catch my eye and then put together my own ideas.

CKG: Tell us about your current projects?

SW: LOL I have no end of projects and ideas — what I lack is time! I’m always working on the next year’s calendar, I’m currently working on calendar number 7! I started working on prayer journals for Grandmother’s but had to put it on hold as another project came along. Carrisa of Throne Connections Bridging Network gave me the opportunity to take my blogs to a new level. We are currently in the middle of putting together a radio production of my blogs. God is so full of surprises He even provided professional recording equipment to make this happen.

CKG: What is the most beautiful display of God’s Grace that you have seen?

SW: He’s a personal God. He wants the best for each of us. For me personally He keeps taking me back around and around teaching me that He is in control and can be trusted.

CKG: What are the most important issues that women face in today’s society?

SW: I have the unique position where I see women at their lowest. It is then that people seek God’s promises. I believe God lets us get there so we will turn to Him and learn to trust that He’s in control. The issues that come to me most are those suffering with illness, divorce, financial crisis and concern for the salvation of their children.

CKG: What is the earliest memory of church that had an impact on your life?

SW: I grew up going to church since I was a baby. If you asked your child when they came home from school every day what did they learn they wouldn’t tell you much. Math, spelling, reading etc. but after 12 years of school they are more advanced than a first grader. I grew up in a church that invested much time in their children and youth. I have very happy memories of growing up in our church.

CKH: What do you believe is successful?

SW: If I can inspire someone to take God at His word and to realize for him/herself that He can be trusted, then my ministry was successful.

CKG: What is the most profound and life changing thing you have heard, whether it be advice or a sermon?

SW: That we are God’s masterpiece “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 NLT This also involved daily telling myself not to worry about what others thought. Worrying about what others think will kill many plans God might have for you. Remember you are His masterpiece and no one is ashamed of their masterpiece….

CKG: What has been the biggest change in your life since creating the calendars?

SW: What started out as a little prayer asking God to give me something to do for Him has grown into a full time ministry/business. I’m at the point where I have to start accepting help from others. God is faithful and provides at just the right time.
