Dress for Easter and Prom

This month is the start of many special occasions that will last us through the year. We have Easter service where everybody wants to wear their best dress. We have proms, special events and galas. We are also stepping into the season of weddings and baby showers.

It is a time to celebrate and a time to buy new clothes! If you are like me, you love every opportunity to buy a new outfit. I have already been scoping for a new Easter dress and seeing what other events I may have coming up that I can get a new outfit.

I’m going to take the time here to go over some different trends as far as prom dresses for 2022 and some different styles and how they work on different body types.

Prom Dresses 2022

The prom dress styles that have been coming out for this year all have a few things in common. First they are long, fitted gowns and the second they all have slits that come up to the thigh. Many just have one slit on one leg but some have slits on both legs. This gives the dress a little bit of an easier approach to walking, wearing and having fun in.

Some of the popular trends have the long gown in the slip but they also create a mermaid flare at the bottom. However, no matter what is trending, buy something that you like and that you will be comfortable in. I have linked some of my favorite prom gowns below that can be worn not only for prom but also for special events and galas coming up this year.

Body Types and Dress Styles

If you are searching for a more formal or a fancy type of dress for any event this year or next here is a little guide to help you find the best outfit for your body type and body shape.

There are basically five different body types as we transform from girls to women. Some may call them by different names but here are the main names and how you can figure out what body type you are.

There is the hourglass body type. This body type has around the same measurements and size of chest and hips, but with a smaller waist. So the body shape tends to mirror that of an hourglass.

There is the rectangle body type. This body type is about the same measurements all the way down (chest, waist and hips).

There is the circle body type. This body type is a little bit bigger in the waist area than in the other areas of the body.

There is the right side up triangle. This body type has a bigger waist and hip area, with a smaller chest.

The last body type is the upside down triangle. This body type has a bigger chest and waist and smaller hips.

There are not only different body shapes but also different heights. Some women are petite, some are tall and then there are what they call average woman. We are all ranging from different body types and different body heights.

Now let’s talk about some dress styles. If you were getting married or going to a fancy event you may consider a plethora of different gowns. Here are some of the most common styles: ballgowns, sheath dress, empire waist dress, mermaid dress and a line dress.

Ball Gowns look great on every body type except for the circle body type. The sheath dress is a long, loose fitting dress (maxi style). It goes all the way to the floor but it doesn’t really poof out at any place. This type of dress looks really nice on hourglass and rectangle body shapes.

Then there are the empire waist dresses. These dresses have the waist starting right under the chest and are loose flowing down to the floor. These dresses look great on all five of the body types.

The mermaid style dress which is fitted all the way through and flows out at the bottom is perfect for hourglass shape and the right side up triangle shape.

Lastly, an A line dress looks great on all body shapes.

The tricky part comes in with petite and tall women. With longer dresses, petite women will most likely have to get the dresses taken in by a tailor. Ball gowns and mermaid style dresses are going to be much more difficult to tailor for height purposes.

Hopefully, these styling tips help you as you are choosing some beautiful dresses for your events this year.
