30 Days with the Word – January 27

30 Days with THE WORD
January 27, 2021

John 1:1-2, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He (the Word) was in the beginning with God (NKJV).’

It has surely been a season. If we have not battled COVID ourselves, we all know friends and family members and people who we count dear who have fought it, some valiantly winning, some valiantly losing, and for some, there has been nothing valiant about our struggles at all. It has humanized us, also desensitized us, but I think one thing we can all say, we all have been infected and affected by it in some manner, and there has been no respecter of persons. Many are broke in more ways than one.

Our lives look vastly different this year compared to last. I read back in my writings and journaling and the notes made in my Bible, and I realize that a year ago right now, we barely had even heard the ‘C’ word, let alone in any context to ourselves. It is like a tornado, right, that little was known about but suddenly appeared on the scene and tore towns apart, diminished lives overnight.

So I am fascinated by this Word from the Lord. Habakkuk 1:5 says, ‘“Look at the nations and watch – be utterly amazed! For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told (NIV).”’

First of all, for God to be utterly amazed has got to be beyond words, flatline fantastic, out-of-this-world. We also have to realize He is going to do something in our ‘days’, not in our day. Those are two very separate meanings. To me, that is personal and not generational. But lastly, the God of the Universe is going to do something that is unbelievable and magnificent and awe-inspiring. An AHA-moment. Who doesn’t love an AHA-moment?!

But wait! There is calamity before that AHA-moment, and we are told of it. We are told that the feud will be great and there will be things we cannot see or understand. But He reminds us He will come forward as victor and there will not be defeat at His hand.

I feel like I have been holding my breath for so long now. I move through my day on a gasp, but I think it would help us to remember, we need to breathe deeply, not gasp, and trust the One Who is everlasting to accomplish an utterly amazing thing.
