I DO! – The Judas Kiss – June 6th

The Judas Kiss

Proverbs 27:5-6, ‘Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.’ (NIV)

Betrayal is likely one of the most painful acts we can experience. It is a busted ‘I Do’. There are so many ways in which we can betray another or we can be betrayed by another.

Jesus was betrayed too. In fact, He was sold out for only a couple shekels and a kiss. Someone who others trusted as Jesus’ friend, as a loved one of their Master, committed treachery that cost a life, cost everything. Jesus understands the bite of betrayal, the sting of deceit.

But we might find it interesting that God Almighty would use the act committed by Judas. Judas had a role. His role was one of treason that would get Jesus to the cross and that was what Jesus came to do. Judas had an important part to play in God’s rescue mission. Judas had a choice…to kiss and tell or remain faithful. He failed in faithfulness, but His sellout fulfilled a part of Jesus’ ‘I Do’.

I think if God can use Judas’ kiss, this tainted ‘I Do’. He can also use for good in your life the betrayal of someone who hurt you. Not every deceit will end in disaster and what Satan means to harm you, I know the Lord can use for good for you. Just like with Judas; I’m sure Satan was snickering and chuckling as he followed behind Judas, prompting him and whispering in his ear, much like he does with us, right? But our God took that painful betrayal and used it for eternity, for salvation, for you and me.

So trust that not every Judas Kiss is from Satan; it might have been your Heavenly Father looking out for you, allowing a betrayal that you thought would crush you but instead it might just have rescued your forever.

What a promise ‘I Do’ is! Whether we are committing to a person
or simply being intentional in life, our word should be a cherished commodity.
This month, journey with me in ‘I Do’ moments which are an oath, a vow, a pact,
a pledge, an honorarium.
