Just Be Kind – Day Eight

Webster says ‘Kind’ means to be of a good or benevolent nature or disposition, as a person; having, showing, or proceeding from the desire to do good to others; goodwill

Synonyms: generous, good, considerate, helpful, charitable, compassion, generosity

GOD says in Joel 2:13, ‘Change your life, not just your clothes. Come back to God, your God. And here is why: God is kind and merciful. He takes a deep breath, puts up with a lot; this most patient God, extravagant in love, already ready to cancel a catastrophe (MSG);’ and,

Psalm 145:8-9, ‘You are kind and tenderhearted to those who don’t deserve it and very patient with people who fail you. Your love is like a flooding river, overflowing its banks with kindness. God, everyone sees your goodness, for your tender love is blended into everything you do (TPT).’

How low can you go? and I don’t mean that in the LIMBO game way. Do you wonder, as do I, seriously, how defunct are we going to become; how overdrawn; how nasty; how mean; how ugly, are we going to go? Whether it is one color calling out another color or one political party assigning blame on the other or one person’s culpability carrying the weight for mankind’s mishap…where does this ever end?

If you are a Jesus-follower, though, you know there is a better way. I can only take so much. I feel absorbed lately with too much information. I don’t even watch TV (much). (My little bit is just enough to remind me why I don’t like television. But I do follow social media, and I’m thinking, this girl seriously might need to watch some television instead of follow social media these days – laugh out loud!) I feel like I am drowning in a patch of tar. I am pretty sure I sidled up to it, curious about its nature, stepped ever so carefully closer to the edge, and it made that ‘THW-UCK’ sucking noise as it began pulling me in. All the discouragement, the competitions, the scare tactics, the negativity, the ‘you’re not enough and you’ll never be enough’ vibe, the unkindness of it all, eating me from the outside, in.

You have a Father that sets a different example for you though. He is merciful and kind. He is the benevolent benefactor wishing to sit as your defender in the courtroom of your life. He is generous and compassionate, and His desire is to do good to and for you. His desire is also that you would do the same on behalf of others; that when you see your social media neighbor being sucked in by the thwuck of unloveliness that you would pull her out and give her His truth to build her house on; and, when the unkindness of the world, which sometimes unfortunately means those who should love us most and support us best, but don’t, even then, we offer a firm foundation of kindness for others to build forever friendships and relationships on.

DAY 8 CHALLENGE: Choose kindness today. What is one deliberate act of kindness you can perform today?
