Mothers Who Mentor

Have you ever known someone who touched your heart and soul in special ways? A person who became a mentor and friend from the first moment you met? I am blessed with wonderful women who have mentored me throughout various times in my life. From the woman who invited me to accompany her while visiting the shut-ins from church, to the friend who shared great wisdom about being a mother-in-law, to the ladies who lead Sunday School classes, I am blessed by each woman. Our family is filled with wonderful women who are “mother mentors”.

Each person has shown me how to walk in the path of love and forgiveness. These precious women have been examples of the way God wants us to live. They have faced trials of unimaginable circumstances and journeyed through those tough moments with grace and dignity. Have they ever failed? Yes. We all fail at times and fall short of the glory of God. Yet, these women have shown the way to persevere and continue to live for the Father.

The ages of these mothers who mentor are varying. From young mothers to middle aged women to the seasoned ages of seniors, I am thankful for the wisdom and guidance they have shared.

Sharing personal experiences can often help others journey through tough situations.

A wonderful blessing is that you don’t have to be a mother to be a mentor. Some of my greatest mentors do not have children of their own. They are women who have learned how to “mother” in special ways.

Some of the lessons I have learned from “mothers who mentor” include:

-Listen before speaking
-Pray before speaking
-Take everything to God first
-Remember you are a child of the one true God
-We all make mistakes. Remember to forgive yourself as you forgive others.
-Love one another. No questions. No judgment. Love as Jesus loves.
-Everyone is experiencing some kind of trial.
-Lift your loved ones, friends, and enemies in prayer.
-Asking for help can bless you and others.
-Sometimes saying “no” is an opportunity for another person to be a blessing.

Do you have a special woman or women in your life? Have you been mentored by a woman of God? Have you thanked those women for their wisdom, guidance and love?

Dear “Mother Mentors”,

Thank you for teaching me how to cook, how to parent with compassion and love, how to be a disciple of Christ, and how to forgive myself, and so much more. Your wisdom and guidance have blessed my life more than I can say. I love you all.

Happy Mother’s Day Month,
Melissa Henderson

  • This is a great post. I instantly recalled the woman I latched onto as a young mother. She was about twelves years older than me, but we had children the same ages. How I needed a mentor! I still consider her to be the wisest woman I’ve ever known. Janice Taussig is still the person I call to consult, no matter how many states separate us.

    • Janice Taussig sounds like a wonderful mentor. Thank you for sharing about her. Happy Mother’s Day ! Have a blessed weekend! 🙂

  • Melissa, thanks for honoring those great mentors for Mother’s Day. I had several mentors who helped me through various stages of motherhood. I pray to be a Titus 2 woman and mentor.

    • Thank you Karen. Mentors are truly blessings from God. Have a Happy Mother’s Day! Blessings! 🙂

Wow, this is SO good, Melissa! Those words of wisdom are excellent and truly WISE words. God bless you and all mothers and mother figures.

  • I was blessed with a “Titus 2” woman during 2 different seasons of my life. Their influence has been invaluable and has lasted decades after I moved to another location.
As I get older, the Lord is impressing upon me that now it’s my turn to be available to a younger woman! I don’t feel adequate, but that’s the point. As God calls me to these roles, He will equip me, just as He did with those who came before me. To God be the glory!

    • Amen. God equips those whom He calls. Yes, to God be the glory! Have a blessed week Ava! 🙂
