A Proverb a day keeps Untruth away

Proverbs 1:1-6, ‘These are the wise sayings of Solomon, David’s son, Israel’s king—written down so we’ll know how to live well and right, to understand what life means and where it’s going; a manual for living, for learning what’s right and just and fair; to teach the inexperienced the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality. There’s something here also for seasoned men and women, still a thing or two for the experienced to learn—fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate, the rhymes and reasons of wise men and women.’ (MSG)

Prescription (RX) Twenty-Four: Fixer Upper

Proverbs 24:3-4, ‘It takes wisdom to build a house, and understanding to set it on a firm foundation. It takes knowledge to furnish its rooms with fine furniture and beautiful draperies.’ (MSG)

Psalm 127:1, ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.’ (NIV)

Beautiful You, before you ever came to be, the Lord already had your blueprints on His heart. He has been working on those blueprints your entire existence. It is His wisdom that is building what is home to you and His understanding that is the brick and mortar for the foundation you are building your world upon. And within the framework of it all, He is furnishing it nicely with wonderful attributes like knowledge and grace, hope and trust.

But you say, “Oh no, Michelle, I didn’t even know God until later in life…is that why I live in this ‘dilapidated shack?’” or “Michelle, I don’t know God at all so does that mean I will never have a ‘home’ on a solid foundation in a nice part of town?” Sister, our Master Builder, the Creator of the Universe, is the most amazing architect and creative contractor and awesome artist ever. And I assure you that no matter what it took and no matter how long it took you to decide to make Him your Master Builder, He won’t waste any time nor will He cut any corners nor only half-heartedly work on your fortress. He will give it all He has, put in every bit of effort He put into your neighbor’s, and design for you the perfect place for you to call ‘home’.

And should you struggle and make some refurbishments yourself, try your hand at remodeling, trash out the shack you dwell in with poor choices, bad company and unhealthy living, remember He is a Fixer Upper and He specializes in home repair. Leave the blueprints and the construction and the redemption to Him and you will be promised a Home Sweet Home.

Isaiah 58:12b, ‘You will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.’ (NIV)
