Self-Help is Only a Prayer Away

The journey of looking after yourself is often a lonely one. Because when all is said and done, it really is up to you. You can read all the self-help books you can get your hands on and have all the professional advice available. But when you are finished with all the advice, only one person is left  – YOU!

I know this can be very overwhelming. The realisation is that it’s up to me to get this right. I had this revelation a while back. Every extra kilo I had on me was really my own doing. I know, light bulb moment, right! I mean, no one else is shoving food down my throat but me.

But truth be told, this stuff is just downright hard. It just is. Can I get an Amen?

But then the small still voice of the Holy Spirit inside me spoke up. “On your own, everything is hard, but with me – All things are possible.”

Could it be that I was trying too hard to do it independently? Trying to use all the world’s wisdom and advice and not turn to the one who created me? Surely God knew me better than I know myself. I know I love chocolate, but God knows how to help me replace it with a better option.

Could it be that easy? I mean, help is just a prayer away. Could I really submit my appetite, my body, to Him? Does He really care about it?

I started to search His Word and found scriptures that confirm that He does. In fact, I found out that God wants me to be happy in my body, to love my body, and present it as a temple to Him. I realised that I had to really care about my body and stop taking it for granted. To respect it and honour it as God does.

I started to commit my appetite, habits, and disciplines to Him. I found God guiding me in my eating and exercise. Just little nudges here and there. I felt led to move more, so, a walker I became! Now I walk every day. I walk and talk to God, and I tell you it is so lovely. It’s like a whole new world has opened up to me.

Then I felt the nudge to cut down on coffee and drink more water. Well, strange as it may be, I felt better. Maybe I was dehydrated. God knows. Then I felt the nudge to eat more veggies. Well, now I visited the toilet more often, which was a bonus all around.

Are you struggling with your body and your health?

Have you considered that your heavenly Father wants to help you on this journey?

He has all the answers and knows everything about your body and life. Isn’t it time for you to move over and let Him lead you in this area too?

Take the first step today. Allow God to show you how to do this. I know that I am glad that I have. Not to mention the kilos that I have lost on the way!
