PSST!

Psalm 139:1-6, ‘Lord, You know everything there is to know about me. You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and You understand my every thought before it even enters my mind. You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and You know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence! You know every step I will take before my journey even begins. You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness You follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. You have Your hand on me! This is just too wonderful, deep and incomprehensible! Your understanding of me brings me wonder and strength (TPT).’

I was reading a devotion the other day by Dr. Charles Stanley and he asked a question of what comes to mind when the word ‘detached’ is brought up. Immediately, I thought about my detached garage outside my home, and in almost the same thought sentence, it reminded me that is another area in my life needing SpringCleaned.

I have been in my home now for almost thirteen years. This is the first winter I have been able to park in my garage! It has been wonderful! I now feel spoiled every time it storms, and I tiptoe through the snow and get in my nice dry vehicle. The garage used to be nothing more than a storage unit. I cannot write the words to express how amazing it felt to turn all that STUFFING into things of value for someone else to use, into cash because the contents had worth, to clean it out and drive my car in there for the very first night. Even more amazing was being able to enjoy the structure for the purpose it was truly designed. See, it wasn’t built to be an onsite storage unit; it was built to shelter a vehicle.

What have you been built for that isn’t serving that purpose, I wonder. Do you know, Beautiful You, that your Heavenly Father has designed you for a purpose that is all yours and yours alone? He created you with an intent in mind and only you can achieve what He purposed for you. If you never stop and get to know your Father on a personal level, so that He can walk with you and love on you and hold you when things go bump in the dark, then you will never discover His perfect portion for you. And He won’t receive from you what He paid a high price for. And that is a waste. In fact, what He paid to purchase you was so costly that it required the most startling sacrifice this world will ever know…the blood and the breaking of the body of His only Son to pay a debt you and I even with all the riches in the world could never pay.

So when we sit like a detached garage or an out-building or a shed, we are compromising the worth He placed on us. We can remove ourselves from relationship; we can build an unattainable chasm before us; we can erect walls that are so strong and sturdy, no force can ever knock them down. But our Father still knows intimately everything inside of you and all things within me. He knows the choices we will make and the destination of our journey we have established for ourselves; the success of our ways and also the failure of our decisions. He knows your heart as if it is a map and He reads my mind as if it were a manuscript. He knows the intent of even thoughts we hide from ourselves; His heart breaks over the choices we make long before we even make them. He has already been into your tomorrows, and is waiting for you to get there, and He hopes you’ll let Him stay too.

Just like my garage, you must unclutter what wasn’t meant for storage and let Him pull right on up inside. Have a yard sale, give it away, pass it down, throw it in the trash bin; whatever. But clean it out and use your beautiful self for what you were created for and stop wasting space. He wants to make His home in you.

Come with me in March and let’s clean house!
If you are anything like me, you have kept some things around far too long and now they got to go! And with the Lord’s help, they can!
