SURVIVOR

I have been oppressed,

distressed,

depressed,

And a complete mess, but I survived.

I have been put down,

thrown down,

and held down, but I survived.

I have been mistreated,

depleted,

cheated,

And almost defeated, but I survived.

I have been choked,

broke,

looked at as a joke,

And put down by church folk, but I survived.

I have been knocked upside the head,

beat up and dragged,

thrown around like a dirty rag,

and left for dead, yet I survived.

I have been molested,

arrested,

injected,

and infected, but I survived.

I have been ashamed,

defamed,

called everything but my name,

and almost driven totally insane, yet I survived.

I survived,

I’m still alive,

God was on my side,

He said I shall live and not die!

I survived,

I survived,

I survived,

I survived because of the blood He shed.

I survived because of the crown of thorns placed upon His head.

I survived because He died.

I survived because He is still alive.

I survived because He had a plan for me.

God said I shall not be destroyed by the hand of the enemy.

But from the chains of the past I would be set free.

Now all my pain and suffering has turned into victory.

I survived,

You survived,

Yes, we survived.
