whATTRIBUTES: What are the ATTRIBUTES of a Loving God?

CREATIVE ONE

February 2nd, 2022

From the moment we know of when time began, a loving God has been creating, forming, designing, making a world His beings, the beings He yearns to adopt as His children, would call home. The very first book of the Bible, the story begins, Genesis 1:1-2 says, ‘First this: God created the Heavens and Earth—all you see, all you don’t see. Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness, God’s Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss.’ The Creator would spend the next week creating something out of nothing, speaking mountains which would grow from the earth and oceans filling from His dropper of ink and birds and animals that sprung from His canvas of creativity. God spoke light into place and liked it, dividing it from the dark of the night. He said, “This is good.”

He had a dream and He dreamt us into it. Like a child making a mudpie, He mixed dirt with His very breath, and then breathed life into the nostrils of humanity. Into us, He created a living soul, and conceived within us the ability to imagine and dream, create and believe. When He perceived the loneliness of man, He reached within the man and withdrew a piece of Him, so they could never be whole, apart. Just like man could never be whole, apart from Him. Then He made us a place to belong, to be, to perform, to take responsibility. But also, He created a space of inertia. His goodness for mankind and the place He thought of His creation occupying would begin to flourish and blossom, breathe and thrum with the beat of a heart, a pulse which spoke life. It is only a loving God Who would turn a world inside to remake it on behalf me. However, isn’t it an epiphany that this same God created me for fellowship with Him!

Ex 3:13-14, ‘Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” (NIV)
