Righteousness. Such a strong word but often we misunderstand what it truly means. We often confuse rightness with righteousness. Righteousness is what we have because God has given us the freedom from our sins through salvation. Rightness is simply being in right standing with God. However, it is often thought that we are righteous because of our Godliness. We tend to think that if we have good actions and speak good words then we are righteous. That is not so. There is nothing that we can do to bring ourselves righteousness. God is the only one who can deem us to be righteous.
When we walk in that righteousness, we begin to realize that we are completely relying on God for everything in life. Walking with God brings you to a place of closeness with Him. It is in that closeness that you understand righteousness is not just being in right standing with God. It is accepting that because of the righteousness of Jesus, we are justified by grace. When Jesus who had no sin became the offering for our sin, we gained righteousness. It was all because of His mercy that we were given the right to the mercy seat of righteousness.
LadyBug, let always be mindful that it is not what we do that makes us righteous, but rather it is knowing that we cannot do it without God.
