We could all use prayers, right? I mean, even if it is a prayer of encouragement, who wouldn’t want someone to pray for them? For a long part of my Christian journey, I felt that I was just no good at praying. I never seemed to have the eloquent wording that most people I hear praying. I felt like I was totally missing the mark when it came to praying for someone other than myself. I even questioned if I could pray for my family the way they needed. Nonetheless, I continued to pray, I even prayed that I would learn how to pray.

Then one day, I was reading the parables in Luke and I came across something that God used to open my eyes about prayer. LadyBug, I was so caught up in what it was sounding like to others, I was not even thinking about what God was hearing. God showed me that prayer is not always about what others hear. Yes, there are times when you are praying for someone that your words will be heard. We need to let the Holy Spirit guide us in those prayers.

Have you ever looked at the prayers that Jesus said? I think the longest one I have read other than the Lord’s Prayer, is they prayer of Jesus in John 17. Most of them are to the point without a lot of fluff. Jesus was a focused prayer. He didn’t lollygag with long and wordy prayers. He spoke healing and left it at that. Oh, how this has changed the prayer game right? I was also taught another thing about prayer. You see, I tend to pray the problem by telling Jesus what the problem is and how I want it solved. I had to learn to pray focused prayers. In the Bible, Jesus prayed focused prayers and if we are able to do as He did, then we can also be precise and to the point. Pray the promises and joy. Pray with thanksgiving and praise. “Lord, I thank you that I am healed, whole, joyful, worthy, loved, usable, called, able, and etc.” “Jesus, I praise your name for giving me the peace above all understanding.” “Father, I thank you for the healing that I was promised by the stripes of Jesus.”
