KEEP CASTING

Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

It seems I have been carrying around a bucket – no make that a semi-truck – full of cares with me lately. To be honest, there is a lot to care about – but it’s not our job to worry.

Cares, in this verse, is merimna in Greek. It is translated into English – to be drawn in different directions; the idea of distraction; anxiety.

That about sums up my past month. I have been distracted, going in different directions, and having a hard time keeping the rudder down and in place. It’s not that I have neglected the casting or the praying, but I think my problem lies in bringing back the cares into my boat.

I’m pretty good at casting. I fail in catch and release. And releasing for good, rather than catching, recatching, and catching again. Do you know what I mean?

Regurgitating the same problem for a different chaw? Why do I do this when I cannot fix the outcome by my chewing on it? I work at it from all angles, only to find myself back at the start, no better for the run except for tired feet, worry lines, and an anxious heart.

Stop, my worrywart self. Enough already.

God is at the helm, He is waiting for me, He is in control, and He directs even a watercourse to go where He wants it to go. Funny thing about that watercourse – it’s a man-made canal. It’s not even a river that God originally designed. So, even if I were to try to direct my stuff, He supersedes my ‘best’ laid plans with His Sovereign will.

Why should I cast them to God? Because He cares for me! Yup. Even if nothing else changes, the fact that my heavenly Father cares, is enough. In our fast-paced world, not many take the time to care. But God ALWAYS does.

When you cast your cares today, walk away with this promise in the hip pocket of your heart.

Oh heavenly Father, thank You for caring for me. Forgive me for not casting and leaving my cares in Your capable hands. I do trust You and believe You can handle all things – for You are powerful and all-knowing. I praise You for working great things in my life and for loving me. I love You. In the name of Your Son Jesus, AMEN.
