A Proverb a day keeps Untruth away

Proverbs 1:1-6, ‘These are the wise sayings of Solomon, David’s son, Israel’s king—written down so we’ll know how to live well and right, to understand what life means and where it’s going; a manual for living, for learning what’s right and just and fair; to teach the inexperienced the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality. There’s something here also for seasoned men and women, still a thing or two for the experienced to learn—fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate, the rhymes and reasons of wise men and women.’ (MSG)

Prescription (RX) Two: a Treasure Map

Proverbs 2:1-5, ‘Good friend, take to heart what I’m telling you; collect my counsels and guard them with your life. Tune your ears to the world of Wisdom; set your heart on a life of Understanding. That’s right—if you make insight your priority, and won’t take no for an answer, searching for it like a prospector panning for gold, like an adventurer on a treasure hunt, believe me, before you know it, Fear-of-God will be yours; you’ll have come upon the knowledge of God.’ (MSG)

Everyone loves the concept of buried treasure, a treasure hunt, a scavenger hunt, searching for lost treasure. There’s a pirate in everyone of us. When we were little kids, we dressed up like Raiders from a Lost Ark and we went on our own digs and pretended we were excavating dinosaur remains and lost worlds and buried chests filled with jewels and gold. As parents we mastermind treasure and scavenger hunts and even go on Pokemon quests all on our own. Maybe we even grabbed a gold pan, mined for gold and got frustrated when we were spoofed with fool’s gold or letdown when the mother lode had an empty vein. Perhaps we deep-sea dived, and swore we found the sunken sister ship to the Titanic and imagined loot and wealth and fame. Whatever the expedition might be, at one age or another, we all have dreamt of, embarked on, or forged our way through, one.
If you were told there was buried treasure likely in your house, would you seek to unearth it? Would you tear it down in the process if you believed certainly something of great value was hidden there? Would you dig up your back yard or look in your walls, trudge through your attic or crawl space, go to great lengths to locate the treasure that was hidden on your premise?

Well, there is! But you don’t have to self-combust or demolish your home to find it. The Word of God possesses many buried treasures in its pages, and almost every home has at least one (sometimes hidden) someplace within its walls. It also is your treasure map to locate the buried treasure, and additionally, it equips you with the very tools you need to follow your treasure map in order to find your buried treasure. If you will seek with all your heart, search with your whole mind, you can unearth so many attributes, so much wealth, great wisdom, untold understanding, lifelong gifts, eternal promise, forever hope. And, remember, where your treasure is, there will your heart be also (Matthew 6:21, NIV).
