THE MANY HATS WOMEN WEAR

By Yvette Urquhart

Oh, the many hats we women wear.  How many hats have you worn this past week?  Probably more than you can begin to count. The hats we wear…. Oh, the hats we wear! We are mother, wife, grandmother, friend, daughter, girlfriend, sister, counselor, career woman, pastor’s wife, student, coach, homemaker, teacher, cook, church clerk, youth leader, mentor, nurse, chauffeur, prayer warrior, miracle worker and the list goes on and on.  It makes me tired just thinking about all of the hats we wear.

How do we do it?  How do we find the energy and the time for the million and one tasks that we are expected to complete each day? Somehow we appear to do it so effortlessly going from one role to another without even blinking an eye.  Proverbs 31:25 says that strength and honour are her clothing.  And we know the very familiar scripture Philippians 4:13; I can do all thing through Christ which strengthens me.

Often we are the first ones to get up in the morning and the very last ones to go to bed at night.  We rise up early in the morning to get the children ready for school and prepare for work. We are fixing the children breakfast, making sure their hair is combed, their clothes are straight, they have their book bags and packing lunch.  While doing all of that, we put a load of clothes in the wash machine.  How in the world do we accomplish all of this before the day even gets started? Then after a busy day at the office, being an entrepreneur or mompreneur we have to prepare for second and third shift. We work, network, attend meetings, run errands, volunteer at the school or in the community all day and this is only the beginning.  There is still so much more to be accomplished before we can truly relax. (If there is such a thing as relax, lol)  Dinner has to be prepared, homework to be done, clothes to be ironed, dishes to be washed, basketball, softball, soccer practice and games, dance lessons, swimming lessons, bible study, your college homework, PTO meetings and I am sure you can think of several more things to add to the list.  Whew! It makes me sweat just thinking about it.  But aren’t we fabulous! We are the bomb.com! We are all of that and a bag of chips. We are amazing. The queens of juggling and multitasking.  It’s not easy wearing all of these hats; but with the Lord’s help we manage to do it.  Psalms 46:5 says God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her.

Sometimes we may feel a little overwhelmed by the many hats that we wear but we must know that our God is right there for us in the tough times, all we have to do is call on him to gives us the strength we need to wear these hats. Jeremiah 32:27 says behold I am the Lord, the God of all flesh.  Is there anything too hard for me?  It is so comforting to know that when things are hard for us, when wearing some of these hats are more than we can handle, we have a God who can do anything!  We don’t have to worry about anything. All we have to do is trust God and keep on rocking our many hats. Philippians 4:6 says Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God.

Wear your hats with pride! Rock your hat as being a woman of God; Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman; for her price is far above rubies.

Strut your wife hat: Proverbs 31:11  The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

Work that homemaker hat:  Proverbs 31:21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household; for all her household are clothed in scarlet.

Flaunt your community hat:  Proverbs 31:20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

You wear so many hats and you do it so gracefully.  You are so strong, beautiful, wise, priceless, unique and valuable.  You and your many hat wearing self. You are absolutely amazing!  Has anybody told you how spectacular you are? Honey, you are doing the thang.  You are working those hats and looking good while you are doing it too!  You keep on wearing those hats, God has your back! He is going to take care of you. He is going to help you get it all done.  No matter how tough, how challenging and how demanding wearing all these hats can be it is also very worrying because all things work together for good to them that love God who are the called according to his purpose. Celebrate yourself.  Give yourself a round of applause for all of your hard work.  Pat yourself on the back.  Give yourself a standing ovation.  Look at yourself in the mirror and say girl; I don’t know how you do it all, but I am so very proud of you.  Know that you are appreciated and necessary, so continue wearing your many hats with pride because your family and the world needs you!!  Rock your hats girrl!!
