Packing For Vacation

Summer vacation. I just love the sound of it. I was planning to go to Dallas, Texas for a summer break this year but it looks like those plans have moved more towards fall. Are you planning a getaway with your family for the summer?

If so, take a few minutes to read this and maybe you will find some helpful tips when it comes to packing for your vacation.

1. Pack the Sunscreen

No matter where you are going for vacation, you are likely going to have a run in with some sun rays. Make sure to put your sunscreen in with your liquids (if you are flying). Also, keep your liquids in a separate container and compartment from any of your clothing. They have been known to sometimes explode from the pressure on the airplanes and you don’t want your vacation ruined by having your clothes ruined.

2. Leave Room in Your Suitcase

Whether you are going somewhere you have been hundreds of times or a new place entirely, you are going to have something new to bring home. So leave some extra room for your souvenirs. Also, try to keep your luggage 10 pounds under the weight allowed by your airline because you never know what you may want to bring back.

3. Avoid Overpacking

I know this one can be really difficult because we have so many outfits we want to wear. And who knows, maybe you will need even more. What if you go on unexpected adventures? I know how our brains work. We want to be prepared for every possible situation.

Just keep it simple. Pack those outfits you bought for the trip. Pack some pieces that can be interchanged and worn a few different ways. Pack a few shorts, tank tops and dresses, plus your swimsuit and then close it and don’t let yourself back into it.

Shoes are what really weighs the suitcase down and takes up so much room. A rule I like to stick by is only 3 pairs – ones I am wearing while traveling and two other pairs to stuff into my suitcase. It is summer, so that means a pair of sandals, sneakers and something dressy.

4. Taking the Mini’s

Taking mini bathroom essentials is a huge space saver. If the brands you love do not have minis, grab some small plastic bottles from Amazon and label them. This way you won’t have huge bottles weighing you down and these little bottles will give you just the right amount for your trip. Ladies, you can fly with your razor. Bring it along. No one likes to use those trashy plastic ones anyways.

5. Take Something to Pass the Time

No matter where you are traveling, you are likely going to have long waiting periods – in an airport, airplane or in a car. Take some books to read, movies to watch, or podcasts to listen to. The worst is being stuck somewhere with nothing to do. Come over prepared with material to enjoy while you wait.

Most importantly, pack your smile and just have fun. Enjoy your break from everyday life. Try to turn off all electronics for a day, or the whole vacation and just enjoy being.

I pray that you have safe travels to and from your destination and that everyone in your party stays healthy.
