I found out some wonderful information about the sunflower in my reading today. LadyBug did you know that there is a Biblical meaning for the sunflower? It has been said that it is a symbol of God’s love! Oh, how wonderful is that? I mean, it is one of the prettiest flowers, but it is also one of the simplest ones. It grows tall and strong. It can withstand drought, but too much water can be dangerous. As I read this, I started thinking how much a sunflower resembles Christians. Each of us are so beautifully created, yet we are simply God’s children. We grow tall and strong in the presence of the Lord and we can withstand drought because of the Holy Spirit and the living water of Jesus.
Sunflowers are known to follow the sun during the day as they are growing. We, as Christians, are remarkably similar as we follow the Son as we grow in our Christian walk. Yet, after the sunflower reaches a certain strength, it remains facing the east in anticipation of the rising sun. Are we like that? Once we reach a certain strength in Christ, we face one direction in anticipation of His return. We begin to stand tall in our faith and be bright because we have sought the light. I have seen the meme that says they face each other on a cloudy day; however, after researching, I found that they do not actually face each other. They only follow the sun.
LadyBug, we must be a “Sonflower” as we learn and grow. We need to be following the Son all day, every day. We need to face Him and not depend on others to give us life. Although we need to be among other “Sonflowers” so we can be pollinated by God as we grow. We should always face the “light” and know that we are designed to follow His warm glow.
I found this so wonderful to know since sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. I now know why I want to be a “Sonflower.” Let us follow the Son and become strong in Him so that we can stand and anticipate His return.
