The Positive Difference: the Positive Difference @ Work

Inspiration Across the Radio Waves @ KLRC 90.9

For our final week of the Positive Difference, Christian Women Living Magazine would like to introduce you to the host that will get you through the work day. From 10am to 3pm each weekday, you can catch the Positive Difference @ Work show with Isaac Weaver. Playing uplifting music as you go through your day, Isaac is sure to play your favorite tune. Behind the scenes of KLRC, Isaac can be found coming up with the content you see on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as the Social Media Director. Let’s get to know this weekday host that inspires us to have a positive work day.

Cyndi Kay Green: Please give us a brief introduction (family, hobbies, career, location)

Isaac Weaver: I am Isaac weaver, Host for 90.9 KLRC on Middays at Work, mountain biker, rock climber, semi-professional goofball. Husband to an incredible woman, caretaker to 4 chickens, a rescue dog, and 4 rescue cats. Siloam Springs, AR.

CKG: Give us a summary on your journey with Christ and who has influenced your spiritual growth the most?

IW: I have had the blessing of growing up in a Christian home, being homeschooled k-12 by a patient, fantastic mom. I was raised in a non-denominational tradition, and am now attending an Episcopal church.

I think of all the incredible examples I’ve been given of a healthy, growing spiritual walk, my mom stands out the most. Through good times and bad, she always made a point to emphasize our reliance on God for all things. Curiosity, and being able to wrestle with the abstract was encouraged in our house. I think that laid a foundation for continued growth today.

CKG: When did you know you wanted to be a radio show host?

IW: When I was a kid our family computer had a dinky little webcam and microphone. Somewhere on an old hard drive lost to time (thankfully) are recordings of me giving speeches and delivering monologues about Star Wars. Without radio, there’s a good chance I’d just talk into a disconnected microphone. Thanks for listening and keeping me from that.

CKG: How did you come to work at KLRC?

IW: Second semester of my freshman year at John Brown University, Mark Michaels hired me as a practicum student to work at KLRC. That was 2013. I was nervous, and had no idea what I was doing, but I had a great boss and mentor in Mark. I was hired on as a full-time staff member after graduating in 2016. I still get to call Mark “boss,” and they’re even paying me a little more now!

CKG: Tell us about a time that God directly answered a prayer.

IW: I love this question. I think over the last year, God has continually answered my prayers in just giving me a peace about going on the air. Hosting a daily radio show through the pandemic was a balancing act of providing information, but also levity, while doing both sensitively. There were days where I felt like the best I could get was a passing grade. Others where I feel like I just didn’t have it in me. Thankfully, God was there, working in both. A summation of my daily pre-show prayer could be: “Ok, I’m here. Please give me what I need today.”

CKG: What is the most inspiring moment you have heard from a listener?

IW: I was speaking with a listener at an event who told me that she had KLRC playing while she was in the helicopter with her son as they were taking him to the hospital. Her exact words were, “while I was encouraging my son, God was encouraging me.” That floored me. Still does.

CKG: What has been the most requested song?

IW: CAIN’s “Yes He Can” is absolutely huge right now! Our listeners have great taste.

CKG: What song seems to be the one that just says “It is all about Jesus”?

IW: O Come to the Altar, Elevation Worship.

“O come to the altar
The Father’s arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ”

CKG: Who has been the inspiration in your walk with Jesus?

IW: Titus.

Titus was a listener who, as a teenager was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He fought a brave battle, and remained positive and a source of joy for everyone who met him at every single turn in his life. I met him near the end of his story here on earth. We had a visiting artist in the area who was kind enough to join us in a trip to see Titus in hospice. Together, with Josh Wilson playing guitar, and Titus playing a small pair of bongos in his hospice bed, we worshiped. We sang “Good Good Father.”

Titus was, and is the picture of trusting Jesus, and loving others. If anyone deserved a pass to be bitter, it would’ve been him. Everyone would’ve understood. Instead, he praise His father. I’ll never forget him, and I look forward to seeing him again one day.

CKG: Have you ever experienced a moment that God just made His presence known in a place that you were not expecting Him to show up?

IW: God continually surprises me by showing up in what I would consider the “mundane.” A kind interaction with a stranger at the grocery store, a beautiful sunset while I’m waiting in traffic… it’s awesome-the closer you look you see Him in every situation. I’m trying to be more mindful of that.

CKG: What is the funnest part of your work day at KLRC?

IW: I love planning out the shows. That involves a lot of article reading, a lot of searching and browsing around on the internet, and finding fun things to talk with the listeners about! It really feels like I get a chance to find cool things for people to learn about and maybe improve their day at the office just a little bit.

CKG: How does KLRC choose the Teacher of the Day?

IW: We have an online form to fill out, and we choose at random from those who submit+share stories about their teachers!

CKG: What is the biggest change in Christian music that you have seen in the last 5 years?

IW: Oh I love this question! I think there’s been a gradual, but consistent genre-shift towards a more country sound. I think there’s been some creative collaborations with Zach Williams and Dolly Parton, and Chris Tomlin and Florida Georgia Line. It’s crazy to see but I guess it makes sense in a way.

CKG: How can our readers get in touch with you?

IW: Shoot me an email and let’s chat! Isaac@klrc.com
